Gibson’s staff took to the 9 Hole Valley Course of the Down Royal in Lisburn. The group of 9 ranged from Seasoned Pros (David Chambers, Clifford Kirkland, Brendan McAteer, William Moffett) to the Novices (Des McGarry, Alistair Cousins, Robin Hutchinson, Neil McMahon, Andrew Moffett).
The Pros lead the groups off the tee, with an almighty drive from David going a total of 10 yards (not a typo). The novices though were no slouch nipping at their heals the whole way. Down Royal has never seen as many recovery shots or lost balls as it did on this outing.
There were few highlights to speak of from the round, however moments that stood out were Robin chipping in from the nearby racecourse, Andrew taking that many retakes he had to change his name to Andrew Mulligan & Des being dressed out of a golfer’s catalogue.
The day culminated on the 9th hole with a win for the Novices and Neil lifting the trophy. There are rumours going around (completely false) that he had played before. Robin however had a round to forget and was rewarded with the wooden spoon for the worst score of the day.
